Design System Onboarding, Guidelines & Advocation

A newly set up a design system for our client needed to be adopted by a variety of different stakeholders like designers, coders, testers and employees of external agencies. It was my responsibility to set up a smooth onboarding and learning process to reach a high adoption rate.

To reach the goal of the project, I split it into different parts, all of which I was responsible for the planning and execution:

As the user groups were quite different, I prepared individual onboarding workshops covering the most important topics for each of their use cases. After facilitating the workshops together with a colleague we would invite the new design system users to the onboarding website, where they could find all relevant information to get started with the design system. To date we successfully onboarded over 650 users on the system.

Design System Guidelines
The biggest part of the project was the creation of the design system guidelines. In order to create them, I had to gather all the relevant information from the designers of the design system, as well as relevant internal stakeholders, with whom I had weekly meetings.
